A Lovely Thing Remembering Our Days at Greenwood High: GHS Graduation

0104__GHS20090136__GHS2009This past Friday, it was all smiles at Smith-Robinson as the 2009 Greenwood High School Graduates took the field. As Pomp and Circumstance filled the air, the Seniors at GHS made their final march as a class before becoming offi0143__GHS2009cial Greenwood Alumni. Class President Hunter Cabe offered his welcome speach with a special message to the soon to be high school graduates: that they go into the world and show everyone that they “Ain’t seen nothing yet.” The crowd swelled in anticipation as GHS Principal Jerry Efurd introduced Dr. James Burgess, known to many simply as Doc Burgess, as the guest speaker. Dr. Burgess spoke elequently on the meaning and the impact of the words that one uses. Doc left the audience with laughter and inspiration as he offered his good will to the class of 2009. Next on the agenda was an address by the class of ’09′s Valedictorian, Shelby Chamness. Ms. Chamness took her time to produce a nostalgic expression of her experience at Greenwood High School and continued the standard of inspiration started by the first tw0586__GHS2009o speakers. Finally it was time for Dr. Kay Johnson to oversee the school board members in handing out the diplomas that the grads had worked so hard for over the past 13 years. As the last diploma was handed out, Salutatorian Erika Beshears came to the podium to present the “Graduate’s Creed.” After reading this, Erika and the rest of the seniors were officialy graduated and the tassels were turned. As the night began to wind down, newly graduated Hayley Carter and 0157__GHS2009Meagan Childers came forth to sing one final duet. The song titled “For Good” rang through the stands and the lyrics rang true for all seniors who knew that no matter how difficult high school may have been, they will safeguard their memories forever and that they have truly been changed for good. 0591__GHS2009With one final verse of the Alma Mater, the class of 2009 had finally graduated and were ready to move on with their lives and careers. As the graduates threw their caps into the air and as they look back on the photos of that night, one could only hope that to each of them, it truly will be a lovely thing remembering their days at Greenwood High.0604__GHS2009
